Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, can help people eliminate or control troubling behaviours, thoughts and/or feelings in order to promote overall well-being. Psychotherapy allows people to explore difficult experiences or circumstances in a non-judgemental way, and to begin finding solutions or answers to problems that make them feel “stuck” in their lives. Problems helped by psychotherapy can include difficulties in coping with daily life, such as the impact of trauma, symptoms of depression/anxiety, relationship issues, social stress, academic concerns, and personal loss and grief.

Research shows that most people who receive psychotherapy experience symptom relief and are better able to function in their lives. Psychotherapy has been shown to improve emotions and behaviors and to be linked with positive changes in the brain and body.
