Kekoa has introduced a full day literacy program which provides intensive literacy learning run by both an Ontario Certified Teacher and Speech-Language Pathologist. The program will provide an interactive full day (9am-3pm) program for students who are significantly behind academically, and the pace of the mainstream classroom is not providing programming that meets their individual learning needs. For many severely delayed students, there is the need for a smaller group size and/or one-on-one instruction that can help close the gaps and allow them to participate more actively when in a mainstream classroom and have solidified and built foundational skills.
Acceptance to the intense reading program is based on a confirmed diagnosis (Learning Disability, ADHD, Autism, Severe Language Impairment). Students are grouped to a maximum of 6 students for a block of 10 weeks from 9am to 3pm, in lieu of one school day during the week. The program is based around two 90 minute blocks of reading instruction (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) alongside other activities that include mindfulness, building self-esteem, confidence and brain training skills. Much like their typical school day, there will be 2 breaktimes (morning and afternoon) as well as a lunch break.
We have several week day programs to choose from as well as space across all our locations in Milton, and Stoney Creek. Look out for our new location in early 2023 as we open a space in Cambridge! Should a group-setting not be available, we are also able to provide one-on-one intervention to families.
To find out whether your child qualifies, please reach out so one of our staff can discuss in more detail. We look forward to hearing from you!
